Hotel managers were over the Moon

Famous for destroying hotel rooms, Keith Moon from The Who was once in a limousine on the way to the airport when he insisted they return to their hotel, saying "I forgot something."

At the hotel, he ran back to his room, grabbed the television and threw it out the window into the swimming pool below. He then jumped back into the limo, saying "I nearly forgot."

Moon's favourite destructive trick was to destroy hotel toilets. He first started in 1965, when he bought a case of 500 cherry bombs. Soon unsatisfied with their relatively meagre levels of destruction, he moved on to M-80 fireworks and then on to sticks of dynamite - which became his explosive of choice.

At the time, he said, "All that porcelain flying through the air was quite unforgettable. I never realised dynamite was so powerful. I'd been used to penny bangers before." According to one estimate, he destroyed as much as £300,000 ($500,000) worth of hotel porcelain and plumbing.

Moon died from a drug overdose on 7 September 1978, aged 32, at Flat 12, 9 Curzon Place, Mayfair, London. Four years earlier on July 29, 1974, Mama Cass Elliot died in the same flat - also aged 32. Moon's last words were, "If you don't like it, you can fuck off!".
